Window Openers vs. Door Knockers

I came across this concept while listening to an episode of the ‘My First Million’ podcast: ‘The Bitcoin Believer’.

There are 2 types of people in this world: Window Openers and Door Knockers.

Window Openers

These folks often look through windows. When they have a direct line of sight to the outcome they want, the open the window and go for the opportunity.

As we all know, things aren’t quite as simple in life. Opportunities are not always straightforward or visible, and the path to success is not a straight line. Often times, there aren’t many windows with golden opportunities staring at you from the other side.

The uncertainty of not knowing is what paralyses most people to take that extra step to invest more time to explore. Not being able to ‘see’ or ‘measure’ a guaranteed outcome discourages people from taking that risk.

Door Knockers

Enter the Door Knockers. These folks know that many great gems in life are actually hidden behind doors. They don’t know what’s on the other side and they have no idea what they’re going to get, but they take the courage to knock, and open them to see what’s on the other side. They are the ones who take the plunge and try various different opportunities.

Over time, the Door Knockers end up slowly increase their leverage. By putting their ideas out to the world (via any platform, whether it’s blogging, tweeting, youtubing, instagramming etc), they start establishing themselves as a thought partner, and automatically increase their chances of meeting like minded folks and learning new things!

There might not be an immediate, guaranteed short-term return, but they’ll go for it anyway and use it as a learning opportunity, and one day, they may find hidden treasure behind one of those doors!

Continue to look through windows and go for what you want, but also make sure that you knock on plenty of doors and increase the surface area of positive outcomes in your life!
