The 8th Wonder Of The World šŸ“ˆ

Hi friends!

As I was wrapping up my reflections for 2020, I decided to sum up a couple of metrics pertaining to my personal growth / branding stuff - and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I had done over the year 2020!

Up to this point, I have:

Doesnā€™t sound like a lot, but it actually required lots of dedication, sacrifices and effort to pull off. I wouldnā€™t have it any other way though - Iā€™ve learnt SO much through doing all of this, and am still getting lots of fulfillment out of it. I was really pleased at how far I had come since I posted my first ever blog post! Iā€™ve definitely grown since then.

We often convince ourselves that ā€˜improvementā€™ has to be this BIG visible instant change because what you see the 'afterā€™ results of an achievement. More often than not, what you donā€™t see are the incremental, (sometimes unnoticeable) changes that are happening behind the scenes.

Should I skip the gym? Should I eat that cookie? Should I binge on netflix or read that book? Hmmm..

These are the kind of thoughts that run through every oneā€™s mind at some point of time, but remember - every small decision counts.

We are so used to instant gratification, that weā€™ve forgotten how to work through the (temporary) pain to reap the benefits.

In anything you do, there will always be a grind, but once you get through it, the feeling of accomplishment is amazing! I always think about this when Iā€™m halfway through a swim, and Iā€™m incredibly tired and out of breath - but I keep moving forward, and once Iā€™m done with my entire swim, the feeling is just GOLD. So I use this to remind myself constantly motivate myself when Iā€™m in any grind!

In his book Atomic Habits, James Clear also mentioned:

In the beginning, there is basically no difference between making a choice that is 1 percent better or 1 percent worse. (In other words, it wonā€™t impact you very much today.) But as time goes on, these small improvements or declines compound and you suddenly find a very big gap between people who make slightly better decisions on a daily basis and those who donā€™t.

If you get one percent better each day for one year, youā€™ll end up thirty-seven times better by the time youā€™re done!

I always knew about the power of compounding, but Iā€™m keen to leverage it even more now to use it to my advantage!

Compound interest is the 8th wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it; he who doesnā€™t, pays it. - Albert Einstein

So keep going, and at every juncture, try to make the 'rightā€™ decision (even if itā€™s a difficult one) as much as possible, because the benefits youā€™ll reap in the long run will just be so good!

Letā€™s keep continuing to strive towards our goals šŸ’ŖšŸ½!

Till next week!

Jamie
